Trusting God in difficult moments

September 26, 2019

Following Jesus is easy when life runs smoothly; our true commitment to Him is revealed during trials. One of the salient truths I discover from the scriptures is that there’s no testimony without a test. Your faith will always be tested. Nobody receives divine testimony without in one way or another passing through the University of Divine Test.  The fact that your current situation is hard doesn’t mean it’s not part of God’s plan. The cross wasn’t easy, but that was God’s plan. Wasn’t it? Trials are part and parcel of life. Some trials are necessary for your growth. Rather than asking “Why is this happening to me?” Ask, “What kind of miracle will God bring through this?”

It is true that sometimes we suffer because of our own mistakes.  I’ve suffered because I followed the wrong voice. I did my will instead of God’s will. I can’t blame God for my mistakes, but what I can say is God brought me through it and made me stronger and wiser in the process. He’s a God who brings you out of the mess you plunged yourself without holding it against you. Are you willing to believe God even when the outward circumstances argue against it? Are you able to look beyond your circumstances and trust God to make a way out of no way? When there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping.” Rom 4:18. He didn’t consider his own body, already dead (since he was nearly a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He didn’t waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised, He was able to perform. “Abraham believed God and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” Romans 4:3.  It gives God so much glory when everyone knows you are in a biting situation and you stand strong, trusting in Him, without complaining, until He delivers you.

If you’ve been frustrated and depressed lately, it’s because you’ve been trying to do God’s job- trying to figure out how He’s going to dot the ‘Is’ and cross the ‘Ts.’ It’s time to get comfortable not knowing. I spent a large part of my life worrying over things I had no control over. God soon taught me to stop wearing my already outstretched self out  with questions I had no answers to and depend on Him. The moment I learned to completely trust Him, my life changed. Wrinkles from my incessant worrying began to fade and I glowed like an infant.  God didn’t promise to keep us from the fire, He promised to walk with us in the fire. Realize that everything is happening for you, not to you; and God wouldn’t allow a situation you wouldn’t be able to handle. Your place of breaking can be your place of blessing. Recall Joseph was blessed in the same place he was broken. Genesis 41:14-36.

While you see pain, God sees purpose. Grow through what you go through. In order to grow, you must go. Don’t allow what you’re going through to block where you’re going to. God is preparing you for something great. I have never met anyone extremely blessed who has not gone through extreme crushing and humiliation. But none of them stayed there. “Jesus was placed in a borrowed tomb because He wasn’t staying. You are also placed on borrowed troubles, storms, etc but never get comfortable there. You’re not staying.” Pastor Tye Tribbett. Chains break when you walk through the fire. “Do not be afraid of the fire for pure Gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure and genuine faith put through this suffering comes out of it genuine.” 1 peter 1:7.

When your faith is small the devil can rip it out. Don’t let him put you in despair and bitterness towards God. The same God who came through for you the last time and the time before the last time, will come through this time. The devil will try to say it was a coincidence, but with God, there’s no such thing as coincidence. Kick Satan in the butt. Cry out to God, and never forget we have victory in Christ. What you see as a roadblock, God sees as an opportunity to elevate you. He knows you wouldn’t move if He doesn’t allow a problem, so He causes chaos in order to catapult you to the next level.

There’s diamond in the dilemma. If you concentrate on the dilemma, you’d be decimated, but if you focus on finding the diamond, you’d be celebrated.  When the wait is prolonged, the miracle is profound. The miracle of Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego is a miracle for you too. You need to believe the promise; so when the pressure increases, you receive protection and ultimately promotion. Your suffering is a prerequisite for divine revelation for what’s yet to come. It isn’t until we fall that we know what it’s like to get back up. It isn’t until we have struggled that we then know the feeling of ease. Everything God does move us to the next level even when we feel we are moving backward. The turnaround that you’ve been praying for is just around the corner. Very soon, you’ll tell your story of how you’ve overcome what you’re going through now, and it will become part of someone else’s survival guide.

God will show up, but not just in the way you thought.

Your faith is all it takes… “But without faith, it’s impossible to please God.” Hebrews 11:6
